Back up and restore your library
Updated Oct 11, 2026 · 3 min read
Save your tags, collections, notes and uploaded images to one file, restore it after a reinstall or on a new computer, and reconnect your folders.
A backup is one file that holds your library: your sources, tags, collections, favorites, notes and print lists, and the images you uploaded, such as custom thumbnails and folder covers. Your model files aren't in it. Copy those yourself, or bring the drive they live on.
Make a backup
- 1Open Settings → Backup & restore.
- 2Click Create backup… and choose where to save the file. Meshory suggests a name like Meshory-library-2026-10-11.meshory-backup.
- 3Keep working while it saves. When it's done, the panel shows Backup saved with the file's size, and Show in Finder (Show in Explorer on Windows) opens its folder. If you left Settings, a notice tells you when it's finished.
Your license, your AI keys and this computer's own settings, such as slicer paths and where thumbnails are stored, never go into a backup. The file isn't encrypted, though: it holds your tags, notes and folder paths in readable form, so keep it as you would any personal file.
Restore a backup
Restoring replaces the library on this computer with the one in the file. Start it from Settings → Backup & restore → Restore backup…, or on a fresh install from the Restore a library backup card on the Add your first folder step of setup.
- 1Choose the backup file. Meshory checks it first, and nothing in your current library changes while it does.
- 2Review what's in it: the number of models, collections, tags and uploaded images, and the folders you'll reconnect after the restart.
- 3Click Restore library and restart.
If this computer already had a library, it isn't deleted. It moves to Previous libraries in the same settings section, so you can switch back. Your license and AI keys on this computer stay as they are. A backup from an older Meshory is updated as it's restored, and if the restored library can't be opened, Meshory goes back to the one you had and says why.
Reconnect your folders
After the restart, tags, collections and search work straight away. Each folder waits until you show Meshory where its files are now: a notice above the library lists them, each with a Choose folder… button. Pick the folder that holds the files directly, and Meshory checks what's there.
- All the files are there: click Connect. Meshory scans the folder and only updates files that changed.
- Some are missing: the window says how many, and which of them carry tags, notes, collections, favorites or covers. Still copying files? Choose Not now and come back later. Connect and forget removes the missing ones, and what they carry, from your library. Your files aren't touched.
- None are there: choose the folder that holds them directly, not the one above or below it. If the folder you picked contains the right one, Meshory offers to use it.
Meshory only reads a folder while it checks it. A folder you haven't reconnected yet stays in your library, browsable and searchable, like a drive that's unplugged.
Switch back
Previous libraries, in Settings → Backup & restore, lists every library a restore replaced, with the date, the number of models and the size. Switch back… restarts Meshory with that library and keeps the one you were using in the list, so you can switch again. A previous library stays until you delete it.
If a backup is refused
- This file isn't a Meshory backup: choose the .meshory-backup file itself.
- Made with a newer Meshory: update Meshory first. The window offers Check for updates.
- Damaged: try another copy of the backup.
- Not enough space: the window says how much free space the restore needs and how much there is.
