How Meshory updates
Updated Oct 11, 2026 · 2 min read
Meshory asks before it downloads a new version, installs it when you restart or quit, and then brings files you already have up to date.
Meshory looks for a new version shortly after it starts and every few hours while it runs. It never downloads one without asking you first.
When a new version is out
- 1A window names the new version and the size of the download, with a link to what's new in it. Choose Download, or Later to be asked again the next time you open Meshory.
- 2The download runs in a small card in the corner while you keep working, with how much is left.
- 3When it's ready, choose Restart to update, or Install on quit to finish the next time you quit Meshory.
If you chose Later, the sidebar keeps a Get Meshory button with the version number, and Settings → Updates has a Download button.
Checking yourself
Help → Check for Updates… looks right away, and so does Check for updates in Settings → Updates. To stop the regular checks, turn off Check for updates automatically in the same place. Meshory then only looks when you ask.
After updating from 1.10 or earlier, Check for updates automatically is on, even if you had turned Automatic updates off before. Turn it off again in Settings → Updates if you'd rather check yourself. Either way, nothing downloads until you click Download.
The Linux .deb package can't update itself. Help → Check for Updates… says when a new version is out and opens the download page for it. The AppImage updates like the Mac and Windows apps.
Bringing your existing files up to date
Some releases teach Meshory something new about files it has already scanned, such as a format it couldn't read before or a better preview. After one of those updates, a window titled Apply this update to your existing files lists each change and how many files, sources or archives it touches. The window says up front whether the work rescans your sources or only redraws previews as you browse.
Click Start update. The work runs in the background while you keep using Meshory, the sidebar shows Updating library, and a notice says Library update finished when it's done. If you quit partway, Meshory carries on at the next launch. A source that's offline or turned off catches up when it's back, and if scanning is paused, the update waits until you resume it.
There's no Skip. Without this step, files already in your library would quietly miss what the new version does for them, while new files get it.
