Where thumbnails live & your files stay put

Updated Aug 14, 2026 · 1 min read

Thumbnails are generated into a local cache. Your original model files are never modified, moved, or uploaded.

Meshory renders each model into a thumbnail and stores those thumbnails in a cache on your machine, kept separate from your models. Scanning, rendering, and organizing only ever read your files. Nothing is modified, moved, or uploaded. Two commands are the exceptions, and both are explicitly yours: Rename renames a file or folder on disk, and Move to Trash sends files to your system Trash. Nothing else in the app writes to your library.

That separation is deliberate: it's why removing a source or clearing the cache never risks your actual models. If the cache is ever cleared, Meshory just re-renders from your files.

You can relocate the cache to another drive. See Moving the thumbnail cache.
